Life Happens but God is Still Good

Have you ever had one of those days? One of those days where things get out of hand at work, you get cut off by a crazy driver on the way home, and then the culmination takes place when you get home and the dog is missing and your spouse is upset because you didn't follow-through on what you said you would do. LIFE happens... During all of this "LIFE" that keeps happening, I don't always respond in the most "Christ-like" manner. In other words I fail. I do feel at times like I'm in a tug-o-war between Romans 7 and Romans 8. But all the while, my heart longs for God and I want to be the person that He would have me to be. Bottom line... I want more of Jesus but sometimes I can struggle.

Over the years, I've come to understand that I often lose focus and this is often the cause for my becoming disenchanted or discouraged. It is during these times of lost focus that I have to shake myself, ask God to breathe His life back into me and reset my heart to pursue Him. Focus can be a fight but its one that we can win and with great benefit. I'm reminded of 2 Cor 4:17-18 which states "For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal." Notice that the scripture says, that our affliction (or trial) which is for a moment, WORKS FOR US...WHILE WE REFUSE TO LET OUR FOCUS BE on the things which are temporary or perceived by our senses. This doesn't mean that we don't take care of things we need to take care of but rather that we don't let LIFE consume us and cause us to lose focus on who God is and what His word says about our situation. Instead we choose to let the affliction WORK FOR US a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory WHILE WE LOOK at the things which are NOT SEEN OR ETERNAL. How can I look at things which can't be seen? Through the eyes of faith. God is saying "don't let the last word in your situation be what your senses tell you... let my Word be the last word".

The situation around you may be dire. My trials my be "small pototoes" compared to what your facing... but God is still faithful. Don't lose hope. Regain your focus on God's Word and don't let LIFE or your situation consume you. Center your spiritual eyes on the Word of Life instead of LIFE itself. LIFE may still come knockin' but will not affect you like it once did. You can walk with confidence and in victory even in the most difficult of circumstances because of who God is. Life happens... but God is still good.
